Air Force Blocks News Sites

DENIED

Papers that posted WikiLeaks can’t be accessed.

How will the defenders of WikiLeaks take this one? Sources say the Air Force is blocking access on work computers to publications that posted the classified diplomatic cables. Air Force users who try to view the websites of The New York Times, Britain’s Guardian, Spain’s El Pais, France’s Le Monde or Germany’s Der Spiegel instead got a screen reading “ACCESS DENIED. Internet Usage is Logged and Monitored.” The notice also warns that anyone trying to access these sites from military computers could face punishment. An Air Force spokesperson wouldn’t name websites that were restricted, but she said they could include media sites. According to the Pentagon, the Defense Department has not told the Air Force—or any other arm of the military—to block the sites.
