An al Qaeda–affiliated group in Iraq has claimed responsibility over jihadist forums for the bombings over the weekend in Iraq that interrupted the celebrations for Eid and killed dozens, the SITE Monitoring Group reported on Monday. The Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) took credit for the bombings in Baghdad and southern Iraq, which killed nearly 80 people. In response to mass jail breaks last month by al Qaeda, Iraqi security forces have been carrying out an “Avenge the Martyrs” campaign to arrest suspected militants.
