A standoff between SWAT officers and a wanted man from Montebello, Calif. on a freeway bridge in the town of Santee came to an end Thursday morning when the man tried to jump off the bridge but was tackled and arrested. Daniel Diego was wanted for taking his four sons—ages 6, 8, 9, and 11—and is also a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife, Erica. The couple’s car was discovered on Wednesday night with the body of an unidentified woman in the trunk. Police spotted Diego’s car on Thursday in El Cajon and tried to pull the car over, but Diego took off and eventually ended up on the ramp in Santee, where police began negotiating with him. At some point, Diego’s demeanor changed and he tried to jump off the bridge. The two boys left inside the car (two had already run away) then got out and ran toward officers.
