An American man was sentenced on Thursday to 35 years in prison for playing a key role in plotting the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai. David Coleman Headley, 52, pled guilty to 12 counts, including conspiracy to aid militants from the Pakistani terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, a group linked to al Qaeda. He pled guilty in U.S. courts to avoid extradition to India, where he would likely face the death penalty. More than 160 people died in the three-day siege of India’s most populous city.
