The American who was allegedly captured fighting alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan has filed a lawsuit from his prison cell at a secret facility in Indiana seeking permission to hold group prayers. Lindh, who grew up in Northern California, remains a devout Muslim, and wants a change to the prison’s rules banning group prayers—a daily practice central to the Muslim faith. His lawyer, Ken Falk of the American Civil Liberties Union, says that the prohibition is a violation of the inmates’ rights—prison officials say it’s a measure necessary to cut down on violence between prisoners.
