Americans Are Interested in Party Platforms

Cut to the Chase

More than convention speeches.

The results of a new Pew Research Center poll should give the RNC some comfort in their decision to postpone today's convention events. According to the latest survey, people don’t care that much about what the candidates or other speakers have to say—it’s all about the party platform. While “about half of the public (52 percent) is interested in learning about the Republican Party’s platform,” just 44 percent and 46 percent are interested in Romney’s and Ryan’s acceptance speeches, respectively. “In terms of interest in the Democratic convention, 55 percent say they are interested in learning about the Democratic platform, while nearly as many express interest in Barack Obama’s acceptance speech (51 percent) and Bill Clinton’s convention speech (52 percent).”
