America's Longest War

The day has come: America’s war in Afghanistan has surpassed Vietnam to become the longest war in the country’s history. America's participation in the Vietnam War, measured from the passage of the Tonkin Gulf Resolution to the withdrawal of the last U.S. combat troops in 1973, lasted 103 months; the Afghanistan war, meanwhile, enters its 105th month on June 7. It shows no sign of ending soon: On Thursday, President Obama reiterated that “it is absolutely critical that we dismantle that network of extremists that are willing to attack us.”
