Kim Davis, the county clerk for Rowan County, Kentucky, who has been denying marriage licenses to gay couples, was found in contempt of court and taken into custody Thursday. Davis refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples despite the Supreme Court denying her case. (She said she was acting “under God’s authority.”) The ACLU has argued Davis should be fined for collecting money from the state while not performing a job that she is being paid to do.
