The editor in chief of a major English-language newspaper in Indonesia has been declared a suspect in a blasphemy case by Indonesian police. The accusation is due to a cartoon published by the paper that mocks ISIS. The cartoon from July shows ISIS about to kill prisoners while a black flag is being raised that has the phrases “La ilaha Illallah,” meaning “there is none worthy of worship except Allah,” and “Allah, Mohamed and Apostle” on a pirate skull. If charged and found guilty, the editor would face five years in prison. The issue was reported to police by a Muslim group called Jakarta Preachers’ Corp.
