After a 75-year run, the main character of Archie Comics will die taking a bullet for his gay best friend. In the Wednesday issue of Life With Archie, Archie Andrews intervenes during an assassination attempt on Kevin Keller, the comic’s first openly gay character and a newly elected senator pushing for gun control. “We wanted to do something that was impactful that would really resonate with the world and bring home just how important Archie is to everyone,” says Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater. Andrews’ death was announced in April, which only leaves the question: Who fired the shot?
