This can’t be good. New York police said Friday that a 20-year-old soldier who escaped from military custody is armed and possibly suicidal. Russell C. Marcum was being held for burglary at the Jefferson County jail in upstate New York when he assaulted another soldier bringing him back to Fort Drum and stole his parents' SUV. Marcum then led police on a wild chase through several towns on Thursday before abandoning the car and disappearing into the woods just south of Utica. Police have warned that he has a handgun and might be suicidal. Marcum is a private first class from Morgantown, W.Va., who joined the Army in August 2010 and was deployed with the 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan from January to March 2011, Fort Drum officials said.
