State TV in Syria says its army has retaken control of Deir al-Zour, ISIS’s last major stronghold in the country. “The city is completely liberated from terrorism,” said the state TV report. The terror group had held most of the city, near the border with Iraq, since 2014. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also confirmed that government forces recaptured control of the city.
