Nava Atlas

Nava Atlas is one of the most prominent vegan and vegetarian cookbook authors working today. She has written and illustrated books, including Vegan Express, Vegan Soups and Hearty Stews for All Seasons, The Vegetarian Family Cookbook, and The Vegetarian 5-Ingredient Gourmet. Her next cookbook is The Vegan Holiday Kitchen, which is to come out in the fall of 2011. Nava has written scores of articles on healthful cooking with natural foods, which have appeared in Vegetarian Times, VegNews, Cooking Light, and numerous other publications. Nava is also a fine artist. Her work is shown and collected by museums and universities across the United States.

Candle Café in NYC is consistently amazing.

Choosing a favorite vegan restaurant is quite a task, as there are so many good ones in nearly every major city. But I've always remained loyal to the original Candle Café in NYC. I admire the activism of owners Joy Pierson and Bart Potenza, in and out of the restaurant. Of course, the food is consistently amazing!

Love Soup stretches 160 recipes into a 528-page book, not because the recipes are complicated, but because there are so many wonderful stories.

Recently I wrote a review of Anna Thomas' new book, Love Soup. What a lovely person and what a delicious writer she is. This book manages to stretch 160 recipes into a 528-page book, not because the recipes are complicated, but because she weaves so many wonderful stories into the pages. Every recipe seems so very heartfelt!

Food Destination

My favorite food destination is right where I live—the beautiful Hudson Valley region of New York State.

I was going to say New York City, then Paris, or some other place that would make me sound cool, but the truth is that my favorite food destination is right where I live—the beautiful Hudson Valley region of New York state. There's a dedication to maintaining small farms; many eateries and individuals supporting local farm products; wineries and pick-your-own places to visit; and an abundance of CSAs and farm markets.
