A month after the former congressman was a guest on the Late Show, Stephen Colbert relentlessly mocked his latest tribulations.

It was just one month ago that Anthony Weiner dropped by Stephen Colbert’s special DNC-themed Late Show to send a message to rowdy Bernie Sanders fans and joke about his past sexting scandals. Well, as we learned this week, those scandals were not in the past after all.

On Monday, Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, who just happens to be a top aide of Hillary Clinton’s, announced that she was leaving him. The long-delayed decision came after yet another revelation about Weiner’s online exploits, this one featuring racy photos in which his young son can be seen in the bed beside him.

In his monologue, Colbert began with the usual double-entendres. “August is a notoriously slow news month, and it can be hard for me to find stuff to talk about,” he said. “Fortunately, something popped up: Anthony Weiner. I just want to extend my thanks to him for rising to the occasion with this truly rock solid story.” Because he couldn’t help himself, he added, “Boner.”

The host went on to say that his “heart goes out” to Abedin. “You know what they say: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, dammit, Anthony, just keep it in your pants until after the election!”

Colbert ended the run of Weiner jokes by noting that the former congressman-turned-former mayoral candidate had been on his show recently. But “he didn't talk about his penis then, did he?” the host asked.

Cut to Weiner talking about “eight years of remarkable growth” on The Late Show a month earlier.

“I stand corrected,” Colbert said.
