Assange Talks to 60 Minutes

WikiLeaks

New reports say he wore drag to hide from police.

Was he “smelly,” as New York Times editor Bill Keller claimed he was? Julian Assange sat down with 60 Minutes Sunday night and said that WikiLeaks’ “founding values are those of the U.S. revolution,” that the website played “inside the rules,” and that it “operated just like any US publisher operates.” He summarized WikiLeaks’ mission: “"It's not about saving the whales. It's about giving people the information they need to support whaling or not support whaling.” (He also refused to discuss the Swedish sexual assault charges against him.) Meanwhile, Guardian journalists revealed new details about Assange, including the revelation that he dressed in drag in order to evade the authorities he claimed were chasing him. He also attended 37 different schools as a child.
