The Federal Communications Commission has fined AT&T $100 million for improperly slowing down Internet speeds advertised to customers as “unlimited” data. An FCC investigation found that the company slowed down Internet speeds for millions of customers after they used up a certain amount of data, which violates the organization’s rules on corporate transparency. AT&T said in a statement that it plans to fight the claim, writing, “The FCC has specifically identified this practice as a legitimate and reasonable way to manage network resources for the benefit of all customers, and has known for years that all of the major carriers use it." This is the largest fine the FCC has ever levied against a company.
