Like so many other retirees, the space shuttle Atlantis’ career ends in Florida: The shuttle landed at the Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday after completing its 32nd and final mission, during which the crew installed a Russian research module and other equipment, and delivered supplies to the International Space Station. Over its 25-year career, the Atlantis covered 120 million miles. The shuttles Discovery and Endeavour will carry out their final flights later this year or early next year. Atlantis will remain processed for launch in case it is needed for a rescue mission for the other shuttles.
