Why don’t any women belong to the Augusta National Golf Club, home of the annual Masters tournament? It’s a question club chairman Billy Payne has brazenly refused to address. “We don’t talk about our private deliberations,” he said when faced with the question at a news conference on the eve of the Masters. The club’s all-male membership has recently been scrutinized because one of its three tournament sponsors, IBM, has a recently appointed female CEO, Virginia Rommetty. The past four male CEOs at IBM have all received member invitations.
