Australia will no longer bestow the titles of knights or dames as honors because they “are not appropriate in our modern honors system,” Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said Monday. The honors are linked to the British monarch, who is still the official head of state of Australia. Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott brought the titles back last year after a 28-year hiatus. He awarded one to Prince Philip during a visit, in what turned out to be a highly unpopular move.
