Epic floods in northeastern Australia have now covered an area larger than France and Germany combined and have displaced 200,000 people. The deluge has covered half of Queensland’s 700,000 square miles—bigger, too, than the state of Texas. Heavy rains caused flooding as rivers overflowed. Water levels are still rising even after the rain subsided. Prime Minister Julia Gillard will tour the region and has called for additional aid; the queen of England has expressed "sincere sympathies."
