“So much money is going to go into those two races, and it’s going to be a colossal waste,” predicted one major Democratic fundraiser.
“Biden has committed to building out the Democratic bench and making his Cabinet as diverse as possible,” an aide said. “Pete helps achieve both of those goals.”
Biden events in the COVID era have been sparse and distant by design. But if his supporters do not to come to the inauguration, planners worry Trump fans will fill the void.

Democrats of all stripes breathed a sigh of relief Saturday as Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 race. But some cautioned the honeymoon inside the party would be brief.
“Be calm. Be patient. Let the process work out as we count all the votes,” Biden said in his not-quite victory speech.
“I mean, I’d like to declare myself married to George Clooney,” a Biden aide said in response to a question about Trump’s media allies declaring him the victor, “but here we are.”
Biden’s remarks come as President Donald Trump’s campaign tries to block votes from being counted in the East and encouraged more counting in the West.
