The BBC’s John Inverdale apparently never learned that if you don’t have anything nice to say, you shouldn’t say anything at all. The British sports presenter is now eating his not-so-nice words after over 600 people complained about his comment that newly minted Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli was “never going to be a looker.” Inverdale wrote an apology to Bartoli and attempted to clarify on air that the “clumsy phrase” was used in an attempt to make the argument that not all good players look like models. Offended listeners took to Twitter, demanding that Inverdale be fired. As for Bartoli, she’s hardly letting the words get her down. “It doesn’t matter,” she said in response. “I am not blonde, yes. That is a fact. Have I dreamt about having a model contract? No. I’m sorry. But have I dreamed about winning Wimbeldon? Absolutely, yes.”
