Curtis Granderson was the star in New York, with a solo home run in the seventh inning and an over-the-shoulder grab in the ninth, showing no sign of the injury that threatened to keep him benched on opening day Thursday. The Yankees went on to beat the Tigers 6-3. In St. Louis, Albert Pujols ground into three double plays to lose 5-3 to the Padres, while in Washington the Braves shut out the Nationals 2-0. Opening day came to a close in Los Angeles, where Tim Lincecum and Clayton Kershaw went head to head in a pitching duel, ending in a 2-1 Dodgers victory.
