Ben Carson thinks it's time for Donald Trump to apologize for leading the "birther" movement against President Barack Obama. On CNN's The Lead Tuesday afternoon, Jake Tapper asked the Trump surrogate if he believes, since, as a "factual matter" Obama was born in the United States, the GOP candidate should "acknowledge that all that birther nonsense was a mistake and to apologize" so that African-American voters might be more receptive to his message. "I think that would be a good idea, absolutely," Carson replied, before saying he thinks "all sides" should remove "hate and rancor" from the political process.
When Trump was asked to address the birther issue in an session with reporters just this past weekend, he refused to say whether or not he believes Obama was born in the U.S. "I don't talk about it because if I talk about that, your whole thing will be about that," he said. "So I don't talk about it."
