Beto O’Rourke and Ted Cruz Agree on Three Debates Before Election
IT’S ON
Loren Elliott
Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) will debate incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz three times before the Texas Senate election in November. Both campaigns agreed to three one-hour debates respectively in Dallas on September 21, Houston on September 30, and San Antonio on October 16. The announcement from both camps comes as polls in the contest have tightened, and President Trump has promised to stage a rally for his former foe in October. For months, the two candidates had been debating the terms of the actual debates, with O’Rourke initially proposing six with two in Spanish. Cruz countered with an offer of five but O’Rourke’s campaign expressed concern about all of them being on Fridays during high-school football season.
