Newt Gingrich is raking in the endorsements, but some of them he might be better off without if he wants to persuade the Republican base to support him. In an interview with the conservative magazine Newsmax, former president Bill Clinton praised Gingrich’s intelligence and openness to solving problems. “He's articulate and he tries to think of a conservative version of an idea that will solve a legitimate problem,” Clinton said. "For example, I watched the national security debate last night. And Newt said two things that would make an independent voter say, 'Well, I gotta consider that.' "
