The problem is clear, legendary comedian Bill Cosby told reporters: “When you carry a gun, you mean to harm somebody, kill somebody.” In his first public comments on the February shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, Cosby said it is imperative that guns be taken out of the hands of neighborhood watchmen. “Without a gun, I don’t see Mr. Zimmerman approaching Trayvon by himself,” the Cosby Show star said. “The power-of-the-gun mentality had him unafraid to confront someone. Even police call for backup in similar situations.” The humorist is known for his warm style of comedy, and over the past decade has taken public stances on issues affecting the African-American community.
