Responding to the NRA’s fiery Friday morning news conference, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg called the event "shameful" and said the gun lobby "blames everyone but themselves." Bloomberg, considered a national leader on gun control, has also chided Obama for a lack of action on the issue. The NRA presser got bad reviews all around: Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) called the group's response “sadly and shamefully inadequate.” Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) agreed, deeming the new school shield program a “distraction” and “delay tactic.” Blumenthal and Feinstein poked holes in the NRA’s sweeping solution to the Newtown massacre that killed 26 by pointing out that many shootings occur in places other than schools, like movie theaters and businesses.
