Whoever wins the New York mayor’s race, Michael Bloomberg has left you a little project. Bloomberg unveiled a $20 billion plan to help defend the city against storms and rising sea levels, saying, “This is urgent work, and it must begin now.” The plan includes building dunes, concrete bulkheads, and levees to protect communities from storms. He also proposed building new raised land on the east side of Manhattan, similar to Battery Park City, that could be used for housing and office space. The city is going to develop emergency measures to be deployed whenever a storm hits, such as temporary flood walls with removable panels.
