House Speaker John Boehner struck back at President Obama in a speech Thursday, calling the president's jobs plan "more of the same" and full of "initiatives that seem to have more to do with the next election than the next generation." Boehner said the Republicans would consider Obama's proposal, but his rhetoric set up what is certain to be an intense legislative battle over the bill that Obama has demanded Congress pass immediately. Boehner said that he opposes any tax increases, and that he would not accept accounting "gimmicks" as solutions to the nation's deficit.
