Baby steps. Following on the hiring of longtime McCain immigration adviser Rebecca Tallent and his recent comments criticizing the Tea Party, aides say House Speaker John Boehner is now committed to “step by step” reform of immigration laws. While such a plan wouldn’t satisfy immigration advocates completely, some see it as the beginning of a deal that would allow Republicans to win over much-needed Hispanic voters. Boehner recently confirmed that he is still opposed to a single, comprehensive immigration reform bill.
