Boeing secured a $38 billion deal with Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China to sell 300 planes and open a facility in China, the company announced Wednesday. Boeing’s announcement coincides with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to a Boeing factory near Seattle during his state visit. Boeing said it plans to work on its 737 jetliner at the forthcoming aircraft-completion center, where workers will paint the fuselage and install seat and in-flight entertainment systems on the 737. Details on where the facility will be located have yet to be finalized. News of the deal sparked a backlash from union members, who protested outside the factory during Xi’s visit. The company said it wouldn’t reduce employment on the 737 program in Washington state.
