Bombings Kill Over 25 in Iraq

Seven bombs exploded in the Baghdad-area, killing 26 people and injuring 67. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks yet, but five of the bombs targeted mostly Shiite districts, suggesting potential Sunni militant involvement. On January 1, Al Qaeda forces took advantage of minority Sunni resentment to seize control of Fallujah and parts of Ramadi.
