The British Royal Air Force reported a direct attack on Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s armored forces Thursday outside Ajdabiyah, destroying four tanks. Loyalist tanks have blockaded Ajdabiyah, located about 100 miles from the rebel stronghold Benghazi. Heavy fighting was also reported in Misrata, located closer to Tripoli. Libyan government officials showed journalists in Tripoli the precision of the allied airstrikes, displaying the blackened skeleton of 30-foot-high radar dish—but the trees nearby still had their leaves. Britain’s chief of defense spokesman, Major General John Lorimer, admitted they have not “been able to stop all of Colonel Gaddafi's attacks, but we would never pretend that we could.”
