Buddhist Mob Slays 94-Year-Old

VIOLENT UPRISING

In Myanmar.

Violence erupted in Myanmar Tuesday when an angry mob of Buddhists set fire to dozens of homes and fatally stabbed a 94-year-old woman in an anti-Muslim raid. Local police estimate that roughly 800 rioters descended on Thabyuchaing, a village just 20 miles north of Thandwe, where President Thein Sein was making his first trip as president. An estimated 250 people have been killed as a result of sectarian violence in Myanmar since June 2012. Another 140,000—mostly Muslim—have fled their homes in fear.
