Thousands of protesters leave as military delivers on reform.

Cairo’s Tahrir Square, the nerve center of Egypt’s historic revolution, is largely empty for the first time in weeks as demonstrators, assured that today’s promises by the military to dissolve parliament and suspend the constitution will usher in the change they were demanding, returned home. Military leaders also pledged to remain in power for six months or until an election is held. As Cairo resumes normal life, the interim officials are expected to ban labor strikes—many labor groups, inspired by the citizens’ revolt, have been seeking the removal of their employers.
