California Bill Adds Gays to Textbooks

California’s legislature has passed a bill that would require textbooks and history classes to include the contribution of gays, lesbians, and transgendered Americans. The measure is partly intended to curb classroom bullying of young gay students, but met with fierce opposition from some Republicans who called it part of a “homosexual agenda.” The bill has already passed the state senate, so it now heads to Gov. Jerry Brown for a signature or a veto.
