An anti-cancer medicine has been found to be able to reveal HIV hidden in cells of patients. By exposing the virus during doses of romidepsin, Danish researchers found that the immune system’s T-cells were able to attack HIV. “Despite very effective antiretroviral treatment, there is still this reservoir left of HIV cells that are infected but not producing the virus,” lead scientist Ole Søgaard said. The findings were revealed at a major AIDS conference in Australia, which was marred by the death of a number of leading delegates in the downed Malaysia Airlines flight.
