Dog Man held its ground for the second consecutive week, holding onto the top spot as other films failed to compete in their opening weekend. The family-friendly Universal and DreamWorks Animation adventure proved to go the distance this Super Bowl weekend, collecting $13.7 million in 3,887 North American cinemas, despite missing its projections for $19-$22 million. The movie has now grossed $66 million globally on a $40 million budget, according to Variety. Heart Eyes, an R-rated slasher made by Scream‘s Spyglass Media Group, came in second, with $8.5 million in 3,102 theaters this weekend on a $18 million budget. The movie had high ratings, earning a 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Third-place’s Love Hurts, however, cannot say the same. The film, led by Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, collected $5.8 million from 3,055 venues cinemas, receiving less-than-favorable reviews along the way. The movie’s Rotten Tomatoes stands at a low 19%, with its budget at $18 million.
