CBS and CNN Partnership?

Unlikely Bedfellows

Sources: Negotiations for newsgathering relationship.

Could a shared dressing room for Katie Couric and Larry King be far behind? According to New York magazine, CBS and CNN are in "advanced negotiations" to work together in newsgathering. Sources spoke to New York on the condition of anonymity, saying the current disastrous state of the business of news have led to "deep talks" between the two networks for a few months. Details of the alleged negotiations are still unknown. The two networks have flirted with this type of relationship before, and the networks share some resources—such as Anderson Cooper, who contributes to 60 Minutes. Unlike NBC, which controls MSNBC, CBS lacks a cable news division to fund expensive news projects. Both CBS and Time Warner, which owns CNN, declined to comment.
