Artworks by Yuri and Konstantin Shamanov in Good News!, an exhibition of Russian contemporary art, has been revealed to actually be the work of British bad-boy artists Jake and Dinos Chapman. A Russian-owned London newspaper uncovered the hoax. The Chapman Brothers created the fake Shamanov identity—complete with photographs and a resume—in order to poke fun at powerful Russian collectors, who are active in the London art scene, and other British artists. Although the body of work constructed for the hoax is not as biting as some of the Chapman’s most edgy endeavors, it does show the same attention to detail, for which is the art duo is well known.
