Don't get too freaked out by the Obama administration's decision to drop its case against alleged USS Cole mastermind Abd el Rahim Nashiri—the military says that he can be charged again at a later date. The decision to stop his trial is part of the ongoing process of ending the military tribunal system at Guantanamo Bay in the hopes of eventually closing down the prison. Nashiri's case is likely to be one of the most difficult to resolve en route to that end since he is one of three detainees that the Bush administration has admitted to torturing, making evidence against him questionable in a civilian trial or military court martial. President Obama is expected to discuss these and other issues today at the White House with 15 family members of people who were killed in Al Qaeda attacks, a group that includes harsh critics of his decision to overhaul American treatment of detainees.
