According to Hugo Chávez, the man arrested while attempting to illegally cross the border between Colombia and Venezuela is a former U.S. Marine. "The man has military training and is refusing to provide information. That's suspicious," the Venezuelan president said Friday. While not even the man's name has been released, Chavez has said the detainee "had all the appearances of a mercenary." For its part, U.S. officials are reaching out to its Venezuelan counterparts but have not received any information. Chavez, during his current bid for reelection, has made several claims against the U.S. for supposedly plotting to take down his government.
