Here’s hoping no one trips and puts a hole in it: A painting by Picasso sold on May 5 for $106.5 million, the highest price ever paid for a work of art at auction. Picasso painted Nude, Green Leaves and Bust, a portrait of his mistress, in 1932. The high-cost work was shown only once in the United States in 1961. The previous record for a work of art was the $104.2 million paid for a Giacometti sculpture in February. Christie’s pre-sale estimate for the Picasso was between $70 million and $90 million.
