On Tuesday, film lovers flocked to Cannes while fashion folks gathered in another town on the French Riviera: Saint-Tropez. Designer Karl Lagerfeld explained that the Chanel Resort 2011 show was inspired by “the idea of Saint-Tropez,” and was “very casual, very down-to-earth.” He sent a series of diaphanous florals, floppy hats, and vintage-inspired pieces down the runway. In the crowd were Vanessa Paradis, Diane Kruger, while Georgia May Jagger and model Karolina Kurkova walked the runway during the show. WWD called the clothes “youthful and fetching,” while Style.com said that the collection showed a “lightness of touch, the sense of enjoyment and ease.”
