Another sign that John McCain’s tough primary battle caught him off guard: His Senate campaign manager Shiree Verdone and deputy campaign manager Mike Hellon have left his campaign to work for a Republican fundraising operation. The campaign insists they were not fired and that their departures are “part of the campaign’s plan for this election year.”
