After a Manhattan judge on Tuesday revoked the $5 million bail for Annette Bongiorno, Bernie Madoff’s trusted secretary who is accused of pocketing $14.5 million in her supervisor's massive Ponzi scheme, the disgraced former aide has turned herself in. Federal Judge Laura Taylor Swain said Bongiorno has an “ abundance of unrestricted assets” that make her a flight risk. Arrested last month on conspiracy charges, Bongiorno faces up to 75 years in prison on the charges if convicted. Bongiorno’s defense lawyers have acknowledged she has $2.4 million in assets after working for Madoff for 40 years, and they submitted sealed financial statements Monday to the court for both Bongiorno and her husband, Rudy.
