The governor of Pakistan’s Punjab province has been assassinated by a member of his own security detail. Salman Taseer, a member of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, was shot at a market popular among foreigners and wealthy Pakistanis. Taseer had recently spoken out against the country’s controversial blasphemy law and his death is expected to add to instability in the volatile country.
