For the first time since 2008, China's President Hu Jintao gave an interview with The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal, just before his state visit to Washington. He wrote his answers to the media, telling the Post that it’s important for the U.S. and China to find "common ground" on several issues, from combating terrorism to cooperating on clean energy. The president shirked U.S. criticisms of China's internal affairs and stated that he will continue to develop a "socialist democracy." "We should abandon the zero-sum Cold War mentality," he wrote, and "respect each other's choice of development path."
