Isn’t it about time we ended the whole calling-the-opposing-party-Nazis tactic? Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) doesn’t think so: He said Wednesday that he doesn’t feel it’s “uncivil” to compare Republicans to Nazis. Cohen, who is Jewish, said he felt comments like the “government takeover of health care” is a lie like Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels would tell. Cohen said Goebbels perfected the idea that “you say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie and eventually people believe it … The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it and then we had the Holocaust.” Cohen said the use of the phrase “blood libel” is “the same kind of thing,” although he didn’t call out Sarah Palin by name for using the phrase.
